Fluxgate Magnetometers

Single Axis Fluxgate Magnetometers

All magnetic fields are "vector fields", having both a magnitude and a direction at any point.
Single-axis magnetometers measure the strength of a magnetic field in a single vector direction. They are therefore ideal for measuring the strength of a magnetic field in a specific direction. They are also suitable for checking remnant magnetic fields of magnetised or demagnetised components.
Bartington Instruments designs and manufacture a variety of single-axis magnetometers including discrete sensors with analog outputs, portable magnetometers with integral displays and systems with theodolite-mounted sensors for measuring declination and inclination at magnetic observatories.
Sensors are available to measure magnetic field strengths up to 5mT, with a resolution as high as 100pT and with bandwidths from DC to a few kHz
.

Three-Axis Fluxgate Magnetometers

Three-axis fluxgate magnetic field sensors are used in many applications, including physics, geophysics, bioelectromagnetics, aerospace and defence.
A three-axis fluxgate magnetometer contains three sensors, in an orthogonal (x,y,z) arrangement. The magnetometer have three outputs, corresponding to the magnetic field strength in the three sensor axes. The total magnetic field strength and direction can be determined by applying simple vector addition.

DAS1 Data Acquisition System
A high performance data acquisition unit, intended for use with large arrays of sensors. It is a completely self-contained system, including analog conditioning, a-d conversion and a powerful processing unit to run your data analysis software. With a maximum capacity of 210 input channels, up to 70 three-axis sensors can be connected.  Typical applications include magnetic signature ranges and monitoring of sensor arrays in geophysics. Compatible with the full range of Mag-03 and Mag-03RC sensors.

Spectramag-6
A fast, portable, 24-bit data acquisition system for magnetic field, vibration and acoustic measurements. The six input channels allow support for up to two Mag-03 three-axis sensors and up to 6 accelerometers or microphones. When combined with a PC, the system can record data at rates up to 10kHz. The Spectramag-6 spectrum analysis software displays data in both the time and frequency domains, with a range of filtering and FFT options available. The system is widely used for magnetic field and vibration surveys prior to the installation of sensitive equipment such as MRI scanners or electron microscopes.

Mag629 Aerospace Qualified Three-axis Magnetometer
A three-axis low noise magnetometer with sensors and drive electronics in separate modules. Rugged and qualified to military aerospace environmental standards,  this unit is suitable for vector compensation of background field on airborne platforms.

Grad-03-500M Three-axis Marine Gradiometer
The Grad-03-500M is a three-axis gradiometer, suitable for underwater use. Intended for use with a separate Analog Correction Unit, which facilitates sensor scaling and alignment correction, and includes three LCD displays for measurement display. The gradiometer is suitable for ROV mounting and operation to a depth of 5000 metres.

 Surveillance Magnetometers

Bartington Instruments wide range of sensors includes some magnetometers with features especially adapted to surveillance and perimeter security applications.

Mag648 Three-axis Low Power Magnetometer
A compact, low power and low noise three-axis magnetometer with a full-scale range of ±60µT and a bandwidth of DC to 30Hz. The less than 15mW power consumption, low noise high environmental protection make this magnetometer an excellent choice for battery powered applications. It is perfectly suited to multi-sensor perimeter arrays.

Mag566 Three-axis Miniature Magnetometer
A three-axis, unpackaged, miniature magnetometer with a full-scale range of ±100µT and a bandwidth of DC to 35Hz. The 20mW power consumption, low self-noise and superior temperature stability make this magnetometer an excellent choice for battery powered applications. Its low cost make it a good choice for use in multi-sensor arrays.

A magnetometer measures magnetic field strength at a specific measuring point. In some applications, it is more useful to measure how much the strength of a magnetic field changes between two specific points. For such a measurement of the change in field (the "gradient" of the field), a Magnetic Gradiometer is the ideal instrument.

The measurement of magnetic susceptibility is a useful technique in a wide range of applications including industrial processes, mineral exploration, geological survey, archaeology and palaeomagnetics.

Bartington instruments designs and manufactures products that allow magnetic susceptibility measurements to be performed in a variety of different environments, from a  research laboratory to a remote drilling location.
